The building of a knowledge-based economy has become an overriding objective for both governments and businesses. Students therefore will in future require an understanding of the relationship between law and technology and how that relationship impacts on businesses and their activities. In particular, they need to grasp how the law defines, shapes and protects information assets as well as transactions.

This course covers the generation and exploitation of intellectual property and content (inventions, trade secrets, designs, literary and artistic works, etc), and various legal issues impacting technology : electronic transactions, security, data/privacy protection, cyber-crimes, cyber ethics and netiquette, bioethics, consumer protection issues for new technologies. The course will end with an exploration of some dispute resolution issues and techniques in a globalised and borderless electronic world.
