Faculty Biographies

Tan Joo Seng is Associate Professor of Management at Nanyang Technological University’s Nanyang Business School in Singapore. He is the Director of Programs at the Center for Cultural Intelligence, the world’s first research center devoted to the research and development of cultural intelligence. He is one of the world’s leading practitioners on cultural intelligence as he was among the first to develop and conduct corporate training programs based on cultural intelligence. His expertise on cultural intelligence, cross-cultural communication and negotiation is sought after by leading global companies. He has worked with Fortune 500 clients on diverse projects, including developing cultural intelligence for effective cross-border client-consultant interactions and dealing with diversity issues in the global workplace. Recent clients include Tata Consulting Services, one of the world’s leading information technology consulting and business process outsourcing organizations, and the California Court Systems in the U.S. Some of the organizations that he has provided consulting and training include Air Liquide, Du Pont Asia Pacific, Great Eastern Life, IBM Singapore, Merial Asia Pacific, Monetary Authority of Singapore, Overseas Chinese Banking Corporation (OCBC), Schering, and Singapore Airlines. Dr. Tan is well known for adopting a hands-on and practical orientation in his consulting and training programmes. Professor Tan has won several teaching awards including Nanyang Fellows Teacher of the Year (2004), and Teacher of the Year for Nanyang Business School (2005).
