Faculty Biographies
Professor Ho Kim Wai graduated in 1978 with a First Class Honours degree in Mechanical Engineering from Imperial College, London. He then qualified as a Chartered Accountant in England and Wales, and later obtained both his Masters and PhD degrees in finance. He is a Fellow of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and the Institute of Certified Public Accountants in Singapore.
Prior to joining Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Professor Ho had extensive experience in Big Eight (now Big Four) international accounting firms in London and Singapore and was the Group Financial Controller and Company Secretary of a publicly listed multinational corporation in the manufacturing industry for several years.
At NTU, he is currently Vice-Dean (Research) and Associate Professor of Banking and Finance at the Nanyang Business School. Professor Ho has held other positions such as being the Founding Director of the MSc (Financial Engineering) Programme and the Centre for Financial Engineering, the Programme Director of NTU’s MBA (Banking and Finance) programme and a member on NTU’s MBA Advisory Committee.
Professor Ho’s teaching and research interests are in corporate finance, corporate and equity valuation, financial statement analysis and modelling, and investments. He conducts these courses at the MBA and MSc levels, and for senior executives in the Nanyang Executive Programme and other in-house executive seminars. His teaching has been consistently rated highly by the participants. In 2003, he received the Best Teacher Award for the Banking and Finance Division.
Professor Ho also publishes widely in international journals, including Journal of Business, Journal of Banking and Finance, Financial Management, Journal of Business Finance and Accounting, Review of Quantitative Finance and Accounting, Financial Review, and Pacific-Basin Finance Journal. His research has been cited by Reuters, Bloomberg, Straits Times, Business Times, Lianhe Zaobao and Today. In 2004, he received the Best Researcher Award for the Banking and Finance Division.
