Accounting

The Division's mission is to advance the accounting discipline through excellence in accounting education and research.

The Division delivers a variety of accounting courses in the undergraduate, MBA and PhD programmes. These courses are designed to equip students with relevant knowledge, skills and attitudes to enable them to become effective and ethically responsible accounting professionals, business leaders, researchers and educators.

Our accountancy programmes are the first in Singapore to be accredited by the AACSB (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business). Our PhD programme in accounting is one of the most well-established outside the US, with recent placements including Erasmus University (EU), University of Hong Kong, University of Massachusetts at Amherst (US), and University of New South Wales (Australia). The Division also collaborates with the University of Illinois, which has one of the top accounting programmes in the US, to help ensure that our curriculum and pedagogy remain rigorous and current.

The Division's faculty members include professors with PhDs from renowned universities such as Columbia University, University of British Columbia, University of Illinois, University of Michigan, University of Texas at Austin, University of Toronto and University of Washington. Besides teaching, faculty members engage in high quality research, as evidenced by the quantum of faculty publications in the top six accounting journals (namely Accounting, Organizations and Society, Contemporary Accounting Research, Journal of Accounting & Economics, Journal of Accounting Research, Review of Accounting Studies, and The Accounting Review). In a 2010 Accounting Research Ranking by Brigham Young University, NTU was ranked 6th globally and top outside the US, based on publications in eleven major accounting journals in the six-year period from 2005 to 2010. Further faculty highlights can be found here.

To promote the dissemination of research and exchange of ideas, the Division organizes regular research seminars through the Centre for Accounting and Auditing Research. It also co-organises the annual International Symposium on Audit Research with the University of Southern California, Maastricht University, and University of New South Wales.
