PhD Admissions

Admission
Admission to the NBS PhD Programme is once a year. Enrolment period is in July.
 
Application period
The application period is between October and January.

If you are applying for admission with NPGS (Nanyang President's Graduate Scholarship), the application period is between October and November.  
 
Application fees
An application fee amounting to S$53.50 (inclusive of tax) is applicable for application to research programmes. You may refer to this link for the University's guideline on application and fees.​

The application portal is fully digital. Electronic copies of your supporting documents must be uploaded via the online portal.  Please do not send paper copies of supporting documents to the University. 
 
Supporting documents
The system will require you to upload your documents.  Please ensure that the electronic documents are clear (pdf/jpeg format). Do not take photos of your documents.
 
  1. Personal particulars page of your passport (for international applicants)
  2. Recent passport-sized colour photograph
  3. GMAT/GRE and TOEFL/IELTS score reports (exams taken in the last 5 and 2 years respectively)
  4. Official Bachelor's and Master's degree (if any) transcripts with detailed results
    Transcripts should include the marking scale (interpretation/explanation of grades/marks)
  5. Bachelor's and Master's degree (if any) certificates
    Applicants who are in the midst of completing their degree must submit a Certification Letter on the status of degree candidature and the expected period of graduation.
  6. Two academic referee reports
    Before you apply online and provide the name and email addresses of your referees, ensure that nominated referees have already agreed to provide referee reports as they will be contacted by the University to provide their reports online.  Provide your referees' official email addresses and not personal email addresses.
  7. A brief research proposal
    A short write-up (approximately 2-3 pages in length) on the topic/idea that you wish to investigate/study if you are admitted into the programme.
  8. Statement of objectives
    A 1-2 page statement that explains (a) your purpose and objective for applying to our PhD programme; (b) your significant accomplishments and achievements; and (c) your strengths and weaknesses in your chosen area of specialisation.
  9. Resume/CV
  10. Research publications (if any)  

All academic documents not in English must be accompanied by official English translations. Translation can be done by the home university or any official authorized parties. The translated documents must bear an original ink signature and seal.​

The official GMAT/GRE/TOEFL/IELTS score sheet will be required upon admission. For candidates who are sending their score reports to school, our institution codes are as follows:  V24-ZV-92 for GMAT, 7250 for GRE.
 
Important 
Note down the application number as you fill in the form. You will need this number for future enquiries or updates on your application.

Submit only one set of application. Incomplete and late applications will be rejected.

What to expect next
The review of application usually commences in January and the outcome of application becomes available between February and May.  If you are shortlisted, you will be contacted for interview.   

If your application is successful, you will receive an admission letter between February and May, along with information on application for Student Pass (for international students).
