Making a positive difference in the community

Published on: 09-Apr-2018

A group of NBS faculty and staff raised funds for a good cause and spent a meaningful weekend afternoon at the AWWA Senior Community Home.

As part of NBS’ corporate social responsibility efforts, a group of faculty and staff raised funds to buy and distribute groceries to elderly residents at the AWWA Senior Community Home on 27 January 2018.

The grocery items were carefully selected so that the elderly residents get the essential nutrients important for good health.

They were packed into bags and distributed to all the 140 seniors who stay at the community home.

Besides bringing a smile to many of these residents, NBS has been actively involved in other corporate social responsibility initiatives.

For instance, the Nanyang MBA team recently hosted the 8th MBA Olympics in January and took the opportunity to raise funds for the Singapore Sports Disability Council (SDSC).

In 2017, NBS collaborated with the Singapore Association for the Dead (SADEAF) to organise the Deaf Awareness Programme during the Freshmen Orientation Week. Through this programme, the freshmen had a deeper understanding about the deaf community and learnt simple sign language.

The school also has a module for undergraduates on corporate social responsibility in tourism and hospitality. It was introduced to allow students to learn the principle theories of CSR and understand how CSR applies in the tourism and hospitality sectors.

Helpful representatives from Sheng Siong Supermarket rendering their assistance by packing and delivering the groceries to AWWA Senior Community Home.

A big thank you to our NBS volunteers for the generous gift of their time and effort.
